Fuel Transportation

A petroleum transport company based in the Inland Empire sought to create a wide area network among its remote sites and affiliate companies to make operations and communications easy and more efficient. In addition to an enhancement of their current network, a voice-over-internet-protocol system was to be implemented utilizing multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) technology to communicate with the remote sites.

The Challenge

A petroleum transport company based in the Inland Empire sought to create a wide area network among its remote sites and affiliate companies to make operations and communications easy and more efficient. In addition to an enhancement of their current network, a voice-over-internet-protocol system was to be implemented utilizing multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) technology to communicate with the remote sites.

How

The Solution

CIT planned and implemented a multiple site-wide area voice and data network using Cisco and ShoreTel equipment. By using MPLS technology, a fully integrated voice and data network was extended from the headquarters to all of the remote locations thereby unifying all communication company-wide. On top of the new voice equipment, several servers were commissioned to handle various company operations including terminal services for the remote offices.

CIT has continued to work closely with this company and provides regular service and support to maintain and extend the life of their equipment.

About

Print Fulfillment

A Southern California based printing company wanted to enhance its business capability using technology as the catalyst. CIT’s expertise was called upon to plan and facilitate this growth by implementing new business technologies and custom software.

The Challenge

This printing company wanted to enhance operations and communications with its already established sites in Calexico and Mexico as well as automate its factory and warehousing facilities. Methods previously employed to communicate and run day-to-day operations were unreliable and inefficient. Emails and cell phones were the basis on which important business meetings would be conducted, making those meetings time consuming and very inefficient. Along with increasing communications with the remote facilities, an automation process needed to be developed to improve the efficiency of operations.

How

The Solution

From the beginning, CIT has been at this company’s side as IT consultants and system administrators to help them grow from a modest five workstations to six-server/40-plus workstation fully integrated network with VoIP and multisite virtual private networks. CIT started by analyzing the operations of this printing company to find out exactly how their daily processes flow. From that point, CIT could model custom built operations software to match all of the manual processes and fully automate them. The custom software handles anything from warehouse management, workflow and inventory management to employee tracking and cost estimation.

To enable all of the remote facilities to be able to use this software and connect to a centralized database, a multisite VPN was implemented. This opened the door to handling the other big issue of communication between the sites. Teleconferencing systems were installed at their major remote facilities utilizing high-grade Cisco/Polycom equipment and the established VPN. Now all of the key players could sit at their respective conference tables and have remote meetings as if everyone was in the same room.

To take things a step further, a VoIP phone system was installed with the central hub located at their headquarters in the Inland Empire. Again utilizing the VPN, the remote sites got VoIP networks extended from the hub at the headquarters. Communication was now seamless, and information flowed freely throughout the entire company.
To this day CIT is contracted to handle maintenance and support for the company’s entire network.

About

Government Association

CIT, working in conjunction with a major government contractor, was contacted by a municipal government association. This organization had grown beyond the capabilities of their in-house IT professionals. With more than 30 servers and 200 workstations, CIT would be responsible for the day to day management of the entire network.

The Challenge

Virtually every one of the 30-plus servers was considered mission critical to the organization, and much of the server hardware was becoming old and outdated. Not only were the servers challenging to manage, but they were extremely costly to power. The 200-plus workstations were also near end of life.

How

The Solution

After coordinating the selection and acquisition of replacements, CIT began the processes of designing and implementing a server/workstation upgrade plan. The 30+ servers were consolidated down to four VMWare virtualization servers. This significantly decreased the complexity of maintaining these servers while reducing energy costs by 90 percent, which equated to nearly $10,000 per month. After the server migration, the workstations were replaced, and software was upgraded across the organization.

Upon completion of the migration, CIT managed the day to day network operations, including server maintenance, workstation support, help desk, backup management, and so on.

About

Warehousing

A Southern California warehousing company sought to expand its capabilities in product handling and inventory management. CIT was employed to provide a complete network overhaul and specialized custom software to automate and increase operations.

The Challenge

A warehousing company located in Los Angeles County needed to increase its operations to handle a larger inventory and become more efficient. Along with this automation, a full network overhaul was required to support the 20-plus users located at several locations. Operations and communications needed to be unified across the locations.

How

The Solution

Utilizing a VPN based network, CIT was able to connect all of the sites to the central office where email, custom warehouse management software, and all other operations were centralized. Employing technologies such as Microsoft Server, Microsoft Exchange, and Cisco VPN, CIT added communication capability and efficiency to the network.

CIT also designed and created custom warehouse management software that automated the tracking of inventory, shipments and received product. Implementing this software reduced the need for excessive paperwork and time needed for daily operations.

CIT is currently the provider of maintenance and support for the warehousing company, handling every aspect of their network and equipment.

About

Medical Research

A medical research company in the Inland Empire required assistance with the moving of their network to a new facility. Not only did their existing network need to be moved and reconfigured, but a brand new infrastructure also needed to be installed in the new facility to handle a larger network with VoIP.

The Challenge

A medical research company needed to move and upgrade their existing network to a new, larger facility that would handle more users and equipment. In addition to the network upgrade, the capability for a VoIP network needed to be installed to replace their existing phone system. The new facility needed infrastructure wiring and new server equipment as well.

How

The Solution

Starting from scratch rather than bringing old problems over from the existing network, CIT built everything from the ground up, including the server equipment. The new facility got a new CAT6 infrastructure with dedicated data and voice lines. CIT handled all of the termination and testing before the workstations and brand new server, built and configured by CIT, were brought over and connected. In addition to the new data infrastructure, a new VoIP system was installed using ShoreTel and Cisco Equipment.

CIT is currently the primary support provider for this company and handles all of its network- and computer-related issues, including interfacing with specialized medical equipment and website services.
